Presentation of the Pàijeda
DEFINITION
“Pàijeda, a composition of ‘pàije’, meaning peace in the Monégasque language, and the initials DA, from Defence Art (the art of defending peace), is a modern, Monégasque martial art, defence art (arte d’a defesa) and combat sport (sport di combatimentu), accessible to all, from children (as an educative discipline) to senior citizens as a leisure or other activity (personal safety/competition),” explains Claude Pouget.
BENEFITS
“Practising Pàijeda, the Monégasque martial art, as a defense art or a combat sport, brings many psychological, physical and social benefits. It is an art of well-being and good living.”
MONEGASQUE MARTIAL ART
“His Serene Highness, the Sovereign Prince, took an interest in the creation of the Monégasque martial art, Pàijeda (the art of defending peace, initially named Muneguda). He was the first person to be informed of its creation on 11 June 2020 and this is the date that I wish to mark, as the discipline’s founder, and monégasque citiyzen, as being Pàijeda’s birthday,”.

INDIVIDUALIZED APPROACH
« The Pàijeda teaching takes place within the framework of a pedagogical approach and an environment adapted to the rhythm and specificities of each person.
Different categories of Paijdals (practitioners of Pàijeda) will find a synthesis created around the theme of Personal Defence, but adapted and customised to their persona, as it is linked, on the one hand, to the age characteristics of the mixed audience it represents (children, teenagers, adults, seniors) and to the level of practice or, on the other hand, to certain specific priority objectives: leisure, competition, well-being, etc.
To describe these different syntheses, we mention in this context: PÀIJEDA BABY (3-5 years), EDUCATIONAL PÀIJEDA CHILDREN (6-10 years) or TEENS (11-14 years), etc. or, on the other hand or from another perspective, as per the priority objective set, other than that of SELF-DEFENSE (qualified as PÀIJEDA in the strict sense), we particularly have PÀIJEDA KICK/THAI BOXING, PÀIJEDA LEISURE, or PÀIJEDA WELL-BEING.
Different approaches but with similar virtues. »
ETHICAL VALUES
At the heart of its practice are ethical values, such as respecting moral codes and the rules of legitimate self-defence.
Promotes human and ethical values dear to the Principality of Monaco;
Encourages those who practice and, in particular, in relation to youngsters, to uphold values dear to the Principality, such as peer support, humanitarian commitment and sustainable development. The Pàijeda Federation of this Monégasque martial art has actively contributed to the work of various internationally-recognised organisations and institutions:
The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation – on 21 June 2021, the Monégasque martial art of Pàijeda became a member of the Cercle des Amis;
The Princess Charlene of Monaco Federation – on 18 May 2022;
Peace and Sport – on 14 April 2021;
The Princess Grace Hospital – on 5 March 2022.
With a resolutely international focus, Pàijeda promotes tolerance and respect for others via the martial arts and combat sports from the different cultures that inspired its creation.
In this respect, training courses with experts : from other disciplines, Grand Master Dominique Valera, 9th Dan, Mr Jimmy Vienot, 7 times world champion, Grand Master Meni Mehabad 10th Dan from other disciplnes : Kickboxing-Full-contact, Muaythaï, Krav-Maga, were organised for participants to help with their progress, as seen since 2020”.
INTEGRAL TO MONACO
“I wished to show my gratitude to my country and to its language. The Principality of Monaco is, for me, a decisive setting which has allowed me over the years to progress in the martial arts which fascinate me as much for their technicality and their multiple assets as for the ethical and humanist values they promote.”
“So, Pàijeda intending to be a vector for Monégasque culture :
• Integrates the Monégasque language (using some 50 words), under the supervision of Mrs Karyn Ardisson Salopek and Mr Stéphan Maggi, Monégasque language teachers;
MUNEGASCU | ENGLISH | ECOUTER |
Salütè / Salütè-ve | Greetings | |
Ün gàrdia | On guard | |

• The red and white clothing is worn in Pàijeda by youngsters,
• Red being the colour of the grades and a symbolic colour in the discipline’s hierarchy.
• The logo, a dove and a shield, and the salute, symbols of peace and respect.”;
